Doomadgee, as the beloved home of Murray, a proud Gangalidda man, it holds a special place in his heart. As a Director of the esteemed Gunawuna Jungai, Murray stands tall, driven by a burning desire to shape the destiny of his community. He has witnessed, for far too long, the transient nature of government and non-government entities entering and exiting Doomadgee without seeking the permission of its people, making a connection, or leaving a lasting impact. This unprecedented opportunity to be a key player in the future of his people has propelled Murray to wield his voice to sculpt the future of his beloved community.
With his Indigenous language and natural ability to understand his people, Murray will eloquently explain how Gunawuna Jungai will serve his people to all who ask. This cause resonates deeply within him, amplified as he witnesses his nine-year-old daughter’s growth and her heightened awareness of the world that surrounds her. Murray and his partner Laurelle, from the Waanyi clan, share the universal aspiration of all parents – to leave behind a world that is better for the generations that follow. Murray has observed his community transform without the consent of its people, but he is resolute in his determination to put an end to this cycle. Murray is passionate in his commitment to advocating for his community’s interests. His dedication serves as a beacon of hope, ensuring that his voice echoes with strength and passion on behalf of his people.
